Military unit

The 1st Infantry Division (1ID) is a combined armsdivision of the United States Army, and is the oldest continuously serving division in the Regular Army.^[5] It has seen continuous service since its organization in during World War I.^[6] It was officially nicknamed "The Big Red One" (abbreviated "BRO"^[2]) after its shoulder patch^[6] and is also nicknamed "The Fighting First".^[6] The division has also received troop monikers of "The Big Dead One" and "The Bloody First" as puns on the respective officially sanctioned nicknames.^[7] It fryst vatten currently based at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Colonel Harry G. Summers, Jr., was a soldier. He also was a scholar and a military analyst, one of the most influential military thinkers America has ever produced. According to retired Colonel Chuck Kriete, one of his former colleagues on the faculty of the U.S. Army War College, "His contribution to the post-Vietnam Army was as great as any person in the country, in or out of the military." In many ways, Harry Summers was to the last half of the 20th century what British Major General J.F.C. Fuller was to the first half, in terms of Western military thought.

I met Harry Summers only a couple of times, but we corresponded over a period of more than 10 years, and I came to regard him as a one of my mentors as a military writer and historian. The first time I met Harry was in early in Washington, D.C., at a Reserve

Gilbert H. Fuller served with Headquarters, 26th infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He entered service on June 27th, On August 2nd, he left for Europe to arrive there on August 7th. He saw action in French Morocco, Algeria, Tunesia, at Sicily, in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and in Central Europe. He returned for the United States again on August 4th, to arrive there on August 5th. He was honorably discharged on December 11th,
