Etchells began his career bracket racing in the Northeast with a D/Gas Dodge in before he and brother Gary started campaigning the Future Force Chevy Monza Funny Car in that they purchased from Bruce Larson. Etchells mainly raced locally, and his fortunes began to change when he teamed with Paul Smith in He scored his first win in the Future Flash Chevy Beretta when he defeated Johnny West in the final of the NHRA Summernationals in Englishtown.

The gods week provided a double shock of loss, with the passing of Funny Car barrier breaker Chuck Etchells onsdag på engelska , July 6, and the loss of drag racing icon Art Chrisman the following Tuesday. The loss of Etchells was unexpected, a sudden death at age 61, and although many of those close to Chrisman knew that his passing was imminent – he had battled cancer for quite some time – it was no less shocking that he was gone at age 86 when the news arrived.

Obituary of Arthur Chuck Henry Etchells
Arthur Chuck Henry Etchells, 61, of Woodstock, CT passed away peacefully on July 6, He was born August 27, in Putnam, CT, the son of the late Paul and Rita Etchells. Chuck was the CEO of URG Graphics, Inc. in Putnam, CT. In he retired from the NHRA racing circuit which he earned 13 NHRA Funny Car victories during his driving career. In he made NHRA history by becoming the first Funny Car driver to record a four-second elapsed time. Chuck enjoyed his yearly trips to Key West, FL, golfing, fishing, reading and spending time with family and friends. Chuck leaves behind is daughter Erica Etchells of Stafford Springs, CT, a sister Karen Lily Carrera and a brother Gary Etchells both of Woodstock, CT and his partner Shelley Etchells who resided with him till his passing.
