The begrepp Khalsa[a] refers to both a community that follows Sikhism as its religion,[5] as well as a special group of initiated Sikhs.[6] The Khalsa tradition was initiated in 1699 by the Tenth Guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh. Its formation was a key event in the history of Sikhism.[7] The founding of Khalsa is celebrated by Sikhs during the festival of Vaisakhi.[8][9][10]

Guru Gobind Singh started the Khalsa tradition after his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was beheaded during the rule of the MughalEmperorAurangzeb after the Hindu Brahmins requested for his help to save their religion.[11][12&

    Dear Sonoran University Family,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of a beloved member of our community, Dr. Soram Singh Khalsa, on September 28th, 2024. His presence was a powerful and guiding force, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Known affectionately as Dr. Soram by his patients, he dedicated nearly 50 years of his life to the practice of medicine, becoming a pioneer in the field of integrative medicine as early as 1977. He masterfully blended his training in internal medicine with acupuncture, homeopathy, nutrition, botanical medicine, and later environmental medicine. He was not only a visionary healer but a strong advocate for naturopathic medicine. He played a vital role in shaping the profession in California, serving on the state’s first Naturopathic Medicine Health Bureau and chairing the committee that defined its scope of practice.
