    木藤亜也(Aya Kito)(July - May 23, ) went into eternal sleep at the age of 26, surrounded by flowers as she wished and left on her journey. Her diary, namely 1リットルの涙(1 litre of tears) was then published after her death and series was too filmed based on her real life story which is recorded in her diaries.


    Aya Kito was diagnosed with a disease called Spinocerebellar ataxia when she was 15 years old. The disease causes the person to lose control over their body, but because the person can retain all mental ability the disease acts as a prison. Aya discovers this disastrous news as the disease has already developed. There is no cure. Through family, medical examinations and rehabilitations, and finally succumbing to the disease, Aya must cope with the disease and live on with life until her death at the age of

    Japanese diarist

    Aya Kitō (木藤 亜也, Kitō Aya, 19 July – 23 May ) was a Japanese diarist. She wrote about her personal experiences living with spinocerebellar ataxia which was later published in the book 1 Litre no Namida. The book has been translated into many languages and millions of copies are said to have been read around the world, and has also been made into a film and a television drama series from Fuji TV in which Asae Ônishi (movie) and Erika Sawajiri (TV series) portrayed Kitō.[1]

    Early life

    Aya Kitō was born to Shioka, a nurse, and her husband Mizuno, an office worker. She was the oldest of five siblings, the other four being Ako, Hiroki, Kentarō and Rika.

    At the age of 14, Kitō started writing a diary. From the age of 15, after her diagnosis, she used it to record her experiences, including her symptoms.
