Singer Minnie Riperton was well on her way to becoming a pop and soul legend when she died of breast cancer in , at age Riperton was blessed with an astounding five-and-a-half-octave vocal range, and achieved her greatest commercial success with the hit ballad, Lovin You. Though her debut album, Come to My Garden, failed to score a hit, it drew critical attention and success quickly followed with the albums Perfect Angel and Adventures in Paradise.
