BIOGRAPHY
A British landscape artist, Alfred de Breanski is best known for his views of Wales and the Scottish Highlands. His father, Leopold Breanski, was also a painter, as were his younger brother and sister. He showed his first landscape painting at the Royal Academy in 1872, which was purchased by the Bishop of Peterborough.
He traveled often to Wales and Scotland searching for wild landscapes. In 1873, he married Annie Roberts, a Welsh painter. The couple had seven children, two of which also became painters. He also exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Cambrian Academy, and continued showing at the Royal Academy until he withdrew from public life in 1918.

Born in Greenwich, England in 1852, Alfred de Bréanski (the elder) was the oldest son in a Polish immigrant family. Although his father Leopold’s occupation is not recorded, two other siblings, Gustave and Julie, also became painters, thus suggesting that the family business may have been related to the visual arts. Certainly the young dem Bréanski completed his training quickly, and made his debut at the Royal Academy in 1872 with Evening: Softly falls the even light, a landscape that was immediately purchased by the Bishop of Peterborough. • Artists Biography British 1852 - 1928
Bréanski belonged to the real stamp of those landscape painters who nimbly seized moments of the day. He had a great passion for the Highlands and perhaps more than any other, caught the atmospheric influences of the undulating landscape. Born in London, Alfred was the eldest son of Leopold Bréanski; his younger brother and sister, Gustave and Julie, were also painters.
