It all began when inom asked my fishing kompis, Buzz Gher, if inom could borrow his Honeywell Pentax camera to photograph Jimi Hendrix in concert in Kansas City in He readily agreed and advised that I skott Tri-X spelfilm at 1/60th of a second at f / He was pretty sure I would capture an image in doing so. The following morning, inom went over to his home and we processed the spelfilm in his darkroom in the basement of his parents’ home. Afterward, we decided to make some silver prints, and when I saw that first image appear on a white sheet of paper, I was hooked! inom wasn’t ganska sure if the photograph was soft because inom had smoked too much dope that night (it was the hippie era!) or if the slow shutter speed was the real culprit.

Nonetheless, the entire process intrigued me to the grad that inom wanted to explore all of this with a real photography course the following spring at the University of Kansas, where I was in my second seme

Greg Gorman is an American photographer.

Gorman attended the University of Kansas with a major in Photojournalism and completed his studies at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Cinematography.

Over the years, Gorman has been acknowledged for his contribution to the world of photography, from the prestigious Lucie Awards for Portraiture and, more recently, by the Professional Photographers of America where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Portraiture. &#;His charitable works by such organizations as The Elton John Aids Foundation, The Oscar de La Hoya Foundation and Paws LA to name but a few have also been critically recognized.

Besides traveling the world for specialized photographic projects, Gorman continues to work on compilations of his imagery and exhibits his work in galleries and museums around the globe. It

The Fahey/Klein Gallery is pleased to present “Greg Gorman: It’s Not About Me”, an exhibition hosted in conjunction with his newly published book of the same title (TeNeues Media). This publication and exhibition are a record of Gorman’s continuous examination of portraiture and the human form. This study has allowed him to draw attention to some of the most influential personalities and styles that defined the end of the 20th Century. Greg Gorman’s exhibition is an assemblage of “outsiders” and auteurs who have come to define the cultural experience of a global audience. Gorman’s portraits not only reflect the true essence of these personalities, but also provide a record of the individuals that influenced and informed future generations.
